The Acromag IP220 is a 12-bit D/A analog output module in the Industry Pack form factor. It outputs analog voltage signals across 8 or 16 independent channels and installs into any ANSI/VITA 4-1995 compliant IP carrier card. In a four-slot carrier, you can pull 64 analog voltage outputs from a single card cage slot using four IP220 modules, which is why it shows up in high-channel-count ATE, motion control, and process simulation racks.

Each channel has its own dedicated 12-bit DAC. That is the spec that separates the IP220 from multiplexed output boards that share a single DAC across channels with sample-and-hold circuits. Individual DACs settle faster, eliminate the glitches that multiplexed architectures produce during re-acquisition, and let you write to any channel independently without disturbing others.
What carrier card does the IP220 require?
Any ANSI/VITA 4-1995 compliant Industry Pack carrier. Acromag makes a range of IP carriers for VME, PCI, CompactPCI, and standalone configurations. The IP220 itself is bus-agnostic since the carrier handles the host bus interface. If you need help matching the IP220 to a specific carrier or host platform, send us your system details and we will confirm compatibility.
What is the difference between the IP220-8 and IP220-16?
Channel count only. The IP220-8 has 8 analog output channels, the IP220-16 has 16. Resolution, output range, DAC architecture, and settling time are identical across both variants. The -E suffix (IP220-8E, IP220-16E) denotes the extended temperature version rated to -40°C to 85°C.
