The Sumitomo Type Q101-M12 is a 12-fiber ribbon fusion splicer built for high-count fiber ribbon work in central office, data center, and outside plant environments. It splices a full 12-fiber ribbon in a single arc cycle, which is the main reason it exists in production cabling environments where single-fiber splicers would add hours to the job. Key Specs Fiber Configuration: 12-fiber ribbon (single splice cycle) Alignment Method: Active cladding alignment Splice Loss (SM): 0.05dB typical per fiber Splice Loss (MM): 0.02dB typical per fiber Splice Time: Approximately 30 seconds per 12-fiber ribbon Heat Shrink Time: Approximately 75 seconds (ribbon sleeve) Fiber Compatibility: SM, MM, DS, NZ-DS ribbon fiber Cleaver Compatibility: Sumitomo FC-6RS ribbon cleaver (recommended) Display: Color LCD with dual camera view Battery: Li-ion, field-replaceable Operating Temp: -10°C to 50°C Storage Temp: -40°C to 80°C Weight: Approximately 5kg with battery Active cladding alignment on a ribbon splicer means the unit looks at the cladding surface of all 12 fibers simultaneously and adjusts position before firing the arc. It is not core alignment, so splice loss on single-mode ribbon runs slightly higher than a core-alignment single-fiber splicer would achieve on individual strands. For ribbon work that is an accepted tradeoff. The throughput advantage of splicing 12 fibers at once far outweighs the incremental loss difference in any realistic ribbon fiber deployment. What ribbon fiber types does it handle? SM, MM, DS, and NZ-DS in 12-fiber ribbon configuration. Standard telecom ribbon counts. If you are working with specialty ribbon fiber outside those types, contact us with the fiber spec before ordering. Does it come with the ribbon cleaver? Accessories vary by unit. Contact us before ordering for a current confirmed accessories list. The FC-6RS ribbon cleaver is the recommended pairing if you need to source one separately. What are offset errors and how do you fix them? Offset errors on the Q101-M12 usually come from one of two places: ribbon cleave angle inconsistency or an E-ACAS setting that needs recalibration. Run the E-ACAS setup routine first. If the errors persist after that, check blade wear on your cleaver before looking at the splicer itself.
