Ericsson FSU 975PM fusion splicer repair
The Ericsson FSU 975PM is the mid-range PM splicer in the FSU family - more capable than the 925PM, with refined alignment mechanics and tighter arc control. Labs that have them tend to keep them; these instruments hold up well past their OEM support window.
Arc failures, electrode wear, and motor alignment problems are the three failure categories we see most on the 975PM. Electrode wear shows up as inconsistent arc discharge - sometimes the arc looks fine but splice loss is higher than expected, which means the electrodes are eroding unevenly. X/Y motor issues cause horizontal alignment errors; Z-axis problems cause longitudinal positioning errors. V-groove contamination and fiber holder wear both cause seating inconsistencies that produce poor splice repeatability. Battery failures on units that aren’t plugged in regularly are also common.
We test on SM and PM fibers, check all axis movement, arc stability, and splice loss repeatability. Electrode replacement, V-groove service, motor recalibration, and arc calibration follow. Splice performance verification on test fibers closes the service.
Flat-rate estimate: $100. Turnaround 1–3 days. Ships FedEx/UPS/DHL.
