Ericsson FSU 995PM fusion splicer repair
The Ericsson FSU 995PM is the top-spec PM splicer in the FSU family - tighter splice loss spec than the 975PM, precise core-to-core alignment, and accurate arc control for both standard and PM fibers. It was built for demanding applications in defense, aerospace fiber sensing, and photonics manufacturing. Ericsson telecom equipment division no longer services these.
The 995PM runs hotter than the lighter-duty FSU models and sees electrode wear faster in high-cycle environments. Beyond electrodes, the most frequent failures are motor positioning drift (the X/Y/Z stages develop play after years of use), V-groove contamination from field particulate, and arc control board failures that cause inconsistent discharge energy. The display and keypad can also develop wear on units that have spent years in field conditions.
We run the 995PM through a complete diagnostic - arc stability, splice loss on SM and PM test fibers, all-axis alignment, battery health, and display function. Electrode replacement, V-groove service, motor recalibration, and arc calibration follow the diagnostic. Final splice performance verification on test fibers confirms repair quality.
