Fujikura FSM-100P fusion splicer repair
The Fujikura FSM-100P is the professional-grade PM splicer in the FSM series - multi-wavelength alignment camera for handling a wider range of PM and specialty fiber types, high-resolution image processing, and tighter theta axis accuracy than the 40PM or 45PM. It’s used in high-precision applications: gyroscope fiber packaging, PM fiber sensors, photonic integrated circuit testing, and defense fiber optic assemblies. Fujikura support for the FSM-100P has ended.
The FSM-100P’s multi-wavelength camera system is what sets it apart from the 40PM and 45PM — and it’s also the most complex failure point. Camera LED aging and optics contamination both degrade the image quality that the PM detection algorithm depends on. We see units where the theta axis appears to be working (no error codes) but extinction ratio on PM splices is consistently below spec - almost always a camera or illumination issue. Beyond the camera: theta motor calibration drift, electrode wear, V-groove contamination, and LCD display failures are the next most common problems.
We start with camera system verification before any alignment testing. Theta axis performance, splice loss, and extinction ratio are all checked with PM test fibers. Electrode replacement, V-groove service, motor and theta axis recalibration, and arc calibration follow. Final PM splice verification confirms performance.
