Fujikura FSM-45PM fusion splicer repair

The Fujikura FSM-45PM is the successor to the FSM-40PM with improved camera optics, more capable image analysis for PM axis detection, and support for a broader range of specialty fiber types. It remains in use in defense fiber sensing systems, gyroscope fiber manufacturing, and photonics research labs. Fujikura support for the FSM-45PM is discontinued.

The FSM-45PM’s improved camera system is also a potential failure point - the camera optics can collect contamination that degrades the image quality the theta axis algorithm relies on, leading to rotational alignment errors that are difficult to diagnose without knowing the unit’s history. Theta motor calibration drift is the next most common issue, followed by the same electrode wear, V-groove contamination, and X/Y/Z motor drift that affect all core-alignment splicers.

We clean the camera optics before any alignment testing, then check theta axis performance with known PM test fibers. Splice loss and extinction ratio both need to meet spec for PM work. Electrode replacement, V-groove service, motor recalibration, arc calibration, and final PM splice verification complete the service.

Flat-rate estimate: $100. Turnaround 1–3 days. International shipping available.
