HP 70950A Optical spectrum analyzer repair
HP 70950A optical spectrum analyzer repair
The HP 70950A is a module for the HP Modular Measurement System - installs in an HP 70004A mainframe and becomes the HP 71450A system. It covers 600 to 1700 nm with a double-pass monochromator design that gives it both high sensitivity and high dynamic range. HP and Agilent discontinued support years ago; these are now entirely in the independent service market.
The module-based architecture creates a failure mode that standalone OSAs don't have: the mainframe interface connection. Module contacts corrode or develop intermittent contact over years of insertion/removal cycles, producing errors that look like electronics failures but clear when the module is reseated. Beyond that, the standard double-pass monochromator failures apply: grating assembly wear, optical path contamination causing sensitivity loss, and detector aging. The softkey interface is driven through the mainframe, so display issues usually mean mainframe problems rather than module problems.
We test the 70950A both standalone and in a mainframe when possible, diagnose optical and electronics faults, clean and align the optical path, and perform component-level repair. NIST-traceable calibration closes the service with a cal cert.
